New Believer Discipleship Toolkit

Turn a resource into a real ministry.

A practical launch guide for churches, families, and ministry leaders using the New Believers Path and Mentor Guide to help people begin and continue the Christian journey without walking alone.

From content to communityPrepare. Match. Walk. Continue.

The lessons provide biblical structure. The mentor provides relationship. This toolkit helps a ministry bring both together with clarity, follow-up, accountability, and care.

The ministry process

Four phases from launch to continued growth.

The goal is not to move people through material quickly. The goal is to help them know Jesus, understand Scripture, build healthy relationships, and take faithful next steps.

1Prepare

Choose leadership, establish safety practices, review the materials, recruit mentors, and define how the ministry will operate.

2Match

Learn the learner’s needs and the mentor’s strengths, then make a thoughtful match with clear expectations and boundaries.

3Walk

Use the ten learner steps and mentor sessions with Scripture, conversation, prayer, practice, and dependable follow-up.

4Continue

Celebrate progress, connect the learner with church and service, and schedule 30-day and 90-day follow-up beyond Session 10.

Launch checklist

Build the structure before placing people in it.

Progress is saved on this device. A ministry may adapt the order, but safety, preparation, and follow-up should not be skipped.

Operating guide

What the ministry needs at each stage.

Use these sections as a coordinator’s overview, then open the printable packet for forms and meeting records.

Leadership and oversight

Appoint one coordinator who keeps the ministry organized without becoming the only person responsible for every learner.

  • Maintain mentor and learner communication.
  • Confirm safeguarding and reporting procedures.
  • Schedule training and check-ins.
  • Protect appropriate confidentiality.
  • Know when outside help is required.

Mentor recruitment and preparation

Choose people for character, humility, dependability, biblical teachability, and healthy boundaries, not simply for confidence or public speaking.

  • Review all ten mentor sessions.
  • Discuss manipulation, confidentiality, and role limits.
  • Practice listening and asking open questions.
  • Confirm the mentor can follow through consistently.
  • Use the mentor commitment agreement.

Thoughtful matching

A match should consider maturity, availability, life experience, communication style, safety, age, gender, transportation, accessibility, and the learner’s comfort.

  • Explain that a match can be changed.
  • Avoid assigning a mentor with a known conflict of interest.
  • Use public or accountable settings when appropriate.
  • Never make the mentor the learner’s only support.

The first meeting

Set expectations before beginning the lessons. The first meeting should create safety and clarity rather than rushing into Session 1.

  • Share stories and goals.
  • Agree on schedule and communication.
  • Explain confidentiality and its limits.
  • Discuss learner and mentor responsibilities.
  • Choose the first meeting date.

Midpoint support

After Session 5, the coordinator should check in separately or together to see whether the relationship and pace remain healthy.

  • Ask what is helping.
  • Identify unanswered questions.
  • Review boundaries and communication.
  • Address missed meetings without shame.
  • Change the match or pace when necessary.

Completion and continuation

Session 10 should not end the relationship abruptly. Help the learner move into the next season of Christian life.

  • Review growth and unfinished questions.
  • Complete a next-steps plan.
  • Confirm church and mentor connections.
  • Choose study and service opportunities.
  • Schedule 30-day and 90-day follow-up.
